I took time to listen to a few of these, and I loved them all. I plan to study and hear every single one. Honestly I'm in early music (and this forum) more for the Renaissance than the Baroque. Thank you for posting.

By the way, might you have any advice for someone who would love to learn the lute? My university has three or four lutes (Renaissance and Baroque... and I think a theorbo too). I was hoping to ask our early music director for a a couple of lute lessons, but unfortunately I cannot commit to much more. Would it be terrible for me, after a few lessons, to teach myself from books? Are there any good lute technique books? Unfortunately my official lessons will probably have to be harpsichord and organ for the next few years, so any other instruments will have to be on my own (limited) time.

I would love to convert you, and lutes are ADDICTIVE.
I believe that d-minor tuned baroque lutes are actually a lot easier on the hands, especially for someone WITHOUT prior guitar experience.
Guitarists tend to transfer with relative ease to theorbo and renaissance lutes are somewhere in the middle.
Where do you live?

I'm studying at University of North Texas, so Lyle Nordstrom is our lutenist. Unfortunately he is also the early music director and doesn't have much free time for a couple of lessons. And like I said, I won't have much time for the next few years either.

The thing is I've never played guitar and don't really want to... I like some Baroque guitar music, but it's in the lute and theorbo that I am really interested. Lots of my favorite Baroque harpsichord music is early 17th century and rather lute-influenced.

I've just spammed Lyle for the first time, something I've been meaning to do for years....

I hope you didn't spam him about me Shocked Smiley Well, it really seems like I won't be getting any lessons any time soon, but I checked out Lundgren's Neue Schule and might get some time to experiment. And then in a few semesters I can seriously take lute as a secondary instrument.

No, just sent him a stack of music.
You will need someone to show you healthy posture and hand position, and importantly the issue of the last joint collapse.
